Despite the economic crisis and a sharp drop in Q4, 2008 was a banner year for Swiss watch exports. Also of note: for the first time since 1998, the US is not the top market for Swiss watch exports. That title for 2008 belongs to Hong Kong, reports the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry.

On Wednesday, December 10th and Thursday December 11th, Antiquorum New York held its final auction of 2008, the Important Collectors' Wristwatches, Pocket Watches & Clocks. More than 500 watches and clocks were auctioned off.

The watch magazine Montres Passion has awarded its 2008 Watch of the Year to Piaget’s Altiplano, eccentric small seconds (pictured below). The prestigious honor was presented to Philippe Léopold-Metzger, Piaget’s CEO, at a recent ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland.
IWC’s Da Vinci Vintage Automatic won second place.
